Maintenance & Asset Reliability Certification (MARC)

Elevating Excellence in Maintenance, Reliability & Asset Management

Operated by the Gulf Society for Maintenance & Reliability (GSMR) under an ISO/IEC 17024:2012 accredited personnel certification program granted by the GCC Accreditation Center (GAC), Accreditation No. PrCB 003.

Overview of MARC

The Maintenance & Asset Reliability Certification (MARC), developed by the Gulf Society for Maintenance & Reliability (GSMR), is designed to assess both professionals and leaders in their knowledge and understanding of key disciplines in Maintenance, Reliability, and Asset Management (MR&AM).

MARC is built upon the GSMR Body of Knowledge (BoK), which comprises of five core pillars:

  • Pillar 1 - MR&AM Strategy
  • Pillar 2 - Asset Reliability
  • Pillar 3 - Maintenance Work Processes
  • Pillar 4 - Systems & Technologies
  • Pillar 5 - People & Leadership

These pillars form the foundation for the certification, ensuring that candidates possess critical knowledge and expertise to effectively manage and improve maintenance practices, reliability strategies, and overall asset performance. The BoK is aligned with international standards such as ISO 5500x and the GFMAM Landscape, providing a structured framework for best practices in Maintenance, Reliability, and Asset Management.

MARC helps candidates demonstrate their knowledge of best practices, management techniques, and strategies to manage and enhance maintenance, reliability, and asset performance within their organizations.

The MARC certification scheme is operated by GSMR under an ISO/IEC 17024:2012 accredited personnel certification program granted by the GCC Accreditation Center (GAC). The certification process is conducted in accordance with applicable accreditation and certification requirements to ensure impartiality, fairness, and competence.

Independent Certification Structure:

  • Independent Certification Structure: GSMR operates its certification activities independently from any training functions, ensuring no conflict of interest in the evaluation and decision-making process.
  • Training Not a Prerequisite: GSMR does not mandate attendance in any specific training course, workshop, or educational event as a requirement for certification.
  • Voluntary Learning Resources: While GSMR may offer educational events or study materials, participation is entirely optional and does not guarantee certification.
  • Objectivity in Assessment: Certification assessments are designed to objectively evaluate candidate competence, using assessors who are independent from any training providers.
  • Strict Separation of Roles: Personnel involved in training are excluded from participating in examination or certification decisions for a minimum of two years, aligned with the GSMR Board of Directors term cycle. This restriction resets following each new Board term, unless an exception is formally reviewed and approved through GSMR’s impartiality safeguards process.
  • No Preferential Treatment: GSMR does not allow trainers or affiliated organizations to influence certification decisions. No candidate receives preference based on training history.
  • Transparent Certification Criteria: Clear, publicly available guidelines govern all certification processes to ensure fairness and consistency for all candidates.
  • No Claims of Easier Certification via Training: GSMR does not promote or imply that certification will be easier, quicker, or less expensive through any particular training service.
  • Ongoing Impartiality Risk Management: GSMR regularly conducts impartiality risk assessments and maintains document edactions to mitigate identified risks.
  • Commitment to Continuous Improvement: GSMR reviews and updates its policies and processes to reflect evolving best practices in accordance with ISO/IEC 17024:2012.
