Resilience in Maintenance, Securing Reliability for the Future

On June 9, the Gulf Society for Maintenance and Reliability (GSMR) celebrates Global Maintenance Day, emphasizing the crucial role of readiness and reliability in today’s demanding environment. This year, GSMR marks significant strides in accreditation and professional knowledge within the maintenance and asset management sector.

The society recognizes an accelerated shift towards operational flexibility and organizational readiness, which empowers organizations to meet future challenges with efficiency and sustainability. In conjunction with the Global Forum on Maintenance & Asset Management (GFMAM), this year's celebration carries the theme “Resilience in Maintenance, Securing Reliability for the Future.”

This theme aligns with the vision of leaders across the Gulf region to enhance operational readiness, elevate reliability standards, and ensure the sustainability of critical infrastructure in line with future development goals.

GSMR highlights that modern maintenance transcends mere equipment preservation; it now serves as a strategic component of business continuity, risk management, and operational readiness, especially amid rapid technological advancements and shifting economic landscapes.

In a groundbreaking step for professional development, the Society announces that its Maintenance & Asset Reliability Certification (MARC) program has officially earned accreditation under the international standard ISO/IEC 17024:2012 for professional competency certification bodies. This accreditation positions GSMR as a leading provider of Maintenance & Asset Reliability Certification throughout the GCC.

GSMR highlighted that the current phase marks the beginning of a new era for their program. The society plans to initiate marketing efforts and outreach related to the certification in the coming phase, aimed at bolstering professional confidence and enhancing specialized skills in the maintenance and reliability sector.

Furthermore, GSMR has successfully completed the GSMR Digital Library project, which has now received official approval for launch. This specialized knowledge platform seeks to empower specialists, researchers, and professionals in maintenance, reliability, and asset management, offering scientific and professional content that aligns with international best practices and standards.

Eng. Ahmed AlJelwah emphasized the need for organizations to develop resilient and adaptable operational systems: “Today, smart maintenance and asset management stand as critical enablers to achieve readiness, continuity, and long-term operational efficiency.”

In conclusion, the society stresses the importance of investing in national talents, adhering to international best practices in maintenance and asset management, and fostering a culture of reliability and operational readiness. These efforts will significantly contribute to economic growth and the sustainability of vital infrastructure projects across the Gulf region. GSMR invites all to engage in its local activities and the initiatives of the Global Forum on Maintenance & Asset Management (GFMAM).
